How Radon Enters Your Home
With the high concentration of radon in our ground, Rochester area homes are very susceptible to this extremely serious issue. We have radon testing equipment to determine whether the people in your home are being exposed to dangerous levels. Our factory-trained radon mitigation specialists can advise you on the best options to remedy your radon problem.
Radon is naturally occurring radioactive gas produced by the breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water. Radon gas can seep into a home from the soil through dirt crawlspaces, cracks in the foundation and walls, floor drains, pipes and sump pumps. Radon can enter any home, old or new, even those with no visible cracks. Each building is unique, and the ground beneath it is also unique. Two houses side-by-side can have totally different radon levels. Radon cannot be detected by any of our five senses. The only way to know what the radon levels are inside your home is to measure them. Tonna Mechanical offers full electronic in-home radon testing with free mitigation estimates if needed.
Almost half the homes tested in Olmsted County exceed the EPA’s recommended action level of 4 pCi/l (pico-curies per liter). Similar percentages are found in other Southeastern Minnesota counties.
Minnesota has widespread low-grade uranium and radium in its soil and rock; uranium decays to form radium, which then decays to form radon gas.
Levels can vary widely, even from home to home in the same neighborhood.
Tonna Mechanical custom designs all radon mitigation systems on-site via our “Free in-home estimate” program. Contact us to set up your in-home visit today.
