Federal Stimulus Tax Credit
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 includes tax credits for purchasers of qualifyingresidential high-efficiency heating and cooling systems. Homeowners who buy and install specific products,such as energy-efficient windows, insulation, doors, roofs, and heating and cooling equipment in existing homes can receive a tax credit for 30% of the cost, up to $1,500, for improvements "placed in service" starting January 1, 2009, through December 31, 2010. Homeowners can benefit from an exciting new tax credit when theyinstall a ground-loop or groundwater-loop geothermal system. The Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008 (H.R. 1424) offers a onetime tax credit of 30% of the total investment for residential geothermal heat pumps.
